If you're a couponer, you know it happens once in a while. You get a coupon for a free item and when you get to the register to redeem it, the cashier needs the price. You can't remember for sure and even if you can, most of the time, they want to see it on their register tape.
An easy solution? When you have a free item coupon, snap a picture of the price on the shelf and then you can just show it to the cashier. I've been doing this lately and the cashiers seem to appreciate it!

It's that time to start thinking about your gardens. I've never been able to grow a thing, but I keep toying with the idea of some container gardening. As I've been researching, I came across this article with some great tips to help grow tomatoes.
Anyone can grow really delicious tomatoes by following these garden suggestions!
Tomatoes need sun, all day. Pick a sunny area where water does not stand after a heavy rain and trees do not cast shadows. Start your seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before your last spring frost. Use sterile seed-starting mixture for best results. Provide 12-18 hours of light daily from fluorescent fixtures 6-8 in. above the plants. Turn the lights off at night. Raise the lights as seedlings grow.

Even if you coupon, it's very hard to save on things like fresh meat. Sure, you can find coupons for lunch meat and sometimes save on ground beef if you buy another product, but to just get a coupon to help save on chicken, beef or pork rarely happens. You have to wait for sales to stock up and did you also realize that sometimes that chicken sits in a warehouse and is maybe even trucked in frozen to your store? It's not always as fresh as you think it is.
That's where Zaycon Fresh comes in. Now, yes, they gave me my first case of chicken free to review and share with you guys, but since then, I've bought more with my own money and I can tell you that it IS a great product. Let's get back to those Tuesday Tips that I used to share with you! It's a new year. Why not?
When I make tacos, I always add beef broth(or chicken if I'm making chicken tacos) instead of water. It just gives it a better flavor. You can do this whether you make your own seasoning or if you buy the packets like I've had to do lately.
Either way, it will make your tacos taste better! If you're skipping the shells and low-carbing, this extra bit of flavor can really help!

Aside from "Where do you get your coupons?" probably the most asked question I hear is "How do you save on meat at the grocery store?"
I know that when you watch shows like Extreme Couponing on TLC, you don't see those couponers buying much meat. That's because there are very few coupons out there for meat. Sometimes you'll find a coupon for free meat when you buy another product, but $1 off steaks or chicken is something you will rarely see.
Still, there are ways to stretch your grocery budget even without coupons.
1. Check out the mark-down bin at your store. I've found some great deals there. The items you'll find marked down are usually say to sell by that day's date, so if it's not something I plan to cook that night, it goes into the freezer until I have a chance to cook it.
2. Stock up when possible. By that, I mean instead of just buying one turkey over Thanksgiving when the prices are really low, pick up a couple. You'll pay less in the long run. Do the same with holiday hams. That way you can pull one out to cook in January or February.
3. Have meatless Mondays. No one says you have to eat meat every day. That doesn't mean you're a vegetarian either! Have grilled cheese and tomato soup for dinner or pasta and sauce. Pasta, sauce, bread and salad is definitely a filling meal!
4. Don't buy your meat at the grocery store. Instead, look for a local butcher shop. They'll often have meat packages that give you a large selection of meats to last you for a month or more. Buy in bulk. You'll save money, plus you will most likely get better cuts of meat and fresher meat from a butcher shop. I've found a place locally and while it is a little bit out of my way, the flavor of the meat makes the trip worth it. Plus, the meat is local and without growth hormones, but the price is less than my local grocery store for most things!
So even without coupons, there are ways to save on meat so you can feed your family the food they love.

I've been couponing for a LONG time, so there are a lot of things I don't think about that much, but I realize there are people just getting into couponing and one of the most basic questions they have is: Where do you find coupons?
In Your Sunday Paper:
There are several places to get coupons. Every week, I have the Sunday paper delivered. I get a set of coupons from that paper and a friend always gives me hers. If I see the coupons are really good, I'll run out and buy another paper(or two.) Over the course of the week, I have other friends who know I coupon and they'll pass their coupons on to me as well. Just put the word out to your family and friends to save their coupons for you and chances are, you'll start accumulating quite a stash!
Online Printable Coupons:
You can also search the web for coupons for products you buy most often. One of the things I do regularly before I head out shopping is head to a search engine and put in a product name and printable coupon to see if something I missed pops up. For instance, if my store is having a good sale on Heinz Ketchup, I might head to Google and search for Heinz Ketchup Printable Coupon. If there's a printable coupon available, most of the time it will definitely pop up!
Here are some of the printable coupon sites to check regularly for new coupons. Make sure you check them often because the coupons can come and go quickly!
Did you also know that most coupons can be printed twice? Once you print it, hit your back button and print again!
Also be sure to watch for me to post deals for hot coupons and new coupons. When you see those lists, you should probably print them as soon as you can. Coupons sometimes have a print limit and with hot coupons, those max out quickly.
More Places to Look for Coupons:
Look for coupons in the store on products(peelies,) above products(tear-pads and blinkies) and watch for coupons that sometimes print at the register when you check out(Catalinas) as well! Once you start looking for coupons, you'll find them everywhere.

It's time for this week's Tuesday Tip! This week's tip is a grocery coupon tip!
When you're shopping always check prices on various sizes of items. Sometimes using a coupon on the smaller varieties can make for a better deal--especially if you have multiple coupons.
For instance, a while back I was able to use a .50 coupon(doubled) to get some instant potato pouches FREE, while I would have paid well over $1 for the large box. Since I had a number of coupons, I bought multiple pouches FREE instead of paying over $1 for each box and I'm still stocked up!
Free is always best for me!

Every week, I'm going to try to post a money saving tip. Sometimes it might be to help you save money shopping online. Sometimes it will be grocery related.
Today's tip is something I've been doing for a long time. Coupons for meat are few and far between, so sometimes it's hard to find a deal. When you're shopping for a family, meat can make up a large portion of your grocery budget.
That's why I like to shop the meat markdowns at my local Kroger. Lately, I've been finding some awesome deals. I'm not sure if it's due to the fact that a new Walmart opened up nearby or not but I've been pleasantly surprised on my past few visits.
I took the meat above out of my freezer for this picture and these are just a few deals I've found lately. Many people will totally skip the markdowns or manager's specials because they think there must be something wrong with the meat in order for it to be marked down. Not so! Usually the meat is dated for the same day or the next day and that's it. When you can get the deals like I did above, why wouldn't you?
Just be sure to freeze it if you're not going to cook it that day!

Each week, I'll highlight a tip to help save money whether you're shopping online or grocery shopping! I hope you'll find them helpful.
One of the ways I save on my grocery bill is by stockpiling grocery staples. When I see something on sale that my family uses on a regular basis, I buy as much as I can. The above picture is a picture of my cupboard after I stocked up on chicken broth and canned milk at Kroger this winter.
When I see a good deal on things my family uses all the time, I'll buy as many cans, jars or packages as possible. I would much rather pay .50 for a can of chicken broth than $1 regular price. While it might seem like a lot of money to put out for your stockpile, when you see your weekly grocery bill shrink because you aren't buying the same products every week at full price, you'll be happy to have your stockpile to "shop" from each week.
