BabyLit Classics - Review & Giveaway

 

I haven't done a giveaway in a while, but when I was offered the chance to review these BabyLit Classics, I knew I had to share them with you. BabyLit takes classic books we've all read, from Little Women to Pride and Prejudice, to The Jungle Book and Treasure Island as long as many more, and formats them into easy to understand board books that are perfect for the youngest children. It is a wonderful way to introduce your little ones to the classics. We all love a good read of Goodnight Moon, but it's good to add to the bedtime repertoire. 

As a child, I loved to read. I spent countless hours in far-away lands, imagining myself a junior detective, or a princess, or so many other characters from my favorite books.  I imagined living in Narnia, Terabithia, London, or the big manor house. The possibilities were endless in my books and my imagination. I know my love of reading happened because my mom, aunt and older sister read to me every day!

I discovered A Little Princess when I was in third or fourth grade and it became my favorite book as a child. If you haven't read it, you really should! There are those who like The Secret Garden more, but this was the book I adored. The book captivated me from the beginning as I witnessed Sara Crewe go from being virtually a princess to living in the attic with the other servant girl, Becky. I took away the kindness she showed to Becky even when she didn't have to and Sara's positive attitude to the end as the message from the book.

Charmin Essentials Review & Giveaway

Charmin has come out with a brand new line of toilet paper. Toilet tissue is something we all need and something we all buy. When you're on a tight budget, even toilet paper can seem expensive. Yes, we clip our coupons and search for a deal, but sometimes, those are hard to find.  Charmin Essentials is the new kind of toilet tissue from Charmin and while the retailer will set the price, browsing at Amazon, the pricing on Charmin Essentials appears to be better than some other brands of equal value. One of the things I like about Charmin Essentials, is you can choose from Charmin Essentials Soft or Charmin Essentials Strong. That allows you to pick what you and your family like according to what is important to you: strength or softness.

I got to try both of these out recently. Charmin Essentials Strong is a big roll that has 3x the strength and is comparable in price to Scott 1000 Tissue. Charmin Essentials Soft is just what it says--soft. Charmin Essentials Soft is comparable in price to Angel Soft. Both of safe for septic tanks and clog safe, so no worries there.

The winner at our house was Charmin Essentials Soft. I guess that means we like to be pampered! We used Angel Soft toilet tissue for years and I can honestly say that Charmin Essentials Soft is definitely just as soft, if not softer, than Angel Soft. We liked it much better and I think this may become our toilet paper of choice.

When my kids were younger, it never failed. I would find a long forgotten stain on a shirt or their favorite pants when I did the laundry. I always depended on Clorox 2 to help me out with those stains so I wouldn't have to deal with tears when their absolute favorite shirt was ruined. Back then, I put a cap full of Clorox 2 in just about every load of laundry I did--just to be safe!

My kids are in college now and I've gotten away from having to do this so often, but still, I was thrilled to get this sample of Purex plus Clorox 2 detergent to try out. (Thank you, Purex!) It combines the stain fighting qualities of Clorox 2 with the power of Purex to get your clothes clean and bright. Purex plus Clorox 2 is bleach free, so you won't smell the odor of bleach, but your clothes will smell clean and look bright and fresh.

A few days after I received my bottle of detergent, my daughter came home from college for the summer. With her, were several suitcases and bags full of clothes. We didn't have to worry about catching every little stain, but when we saw them, we took the time to pour a little bit of detergent on the stain, rub it in and let it sit for a few minutes before washing. My washer actually has an option to soak before washing and with some of her things we did just that. Now all her towels, sheets and blankets and put away for fall when she'll need them again and they look great!

I took pictures in my bathroom because that's where I decided to use mine. Brooklyn Bean Cocoa Review & Giveaway

I got this box of Brooklyn Bean Cocoa the other day. It was filled with cocoa to use in my Keurig!

Oh my! I love cocoa and all these flavors. Which one to try first?

Which one would you choose?

I decided to try the Carnival flavor first.

The Carnival flavor is blend of caramel and cocoa flavors to remind you of visiting the carnival and having caramel popcorn. This one definitely had a caramel flavor. If you love that sweet flavor, you'll like this blend. It was more of a caramel flavor than a chocolate for sure.

My daughter decided she wanted to try the Campfire flavor.

It's supposed to remind you of sitting around a campfire roasting marshmallows. The flavor definitely brings you back to that and if you like marshmallows, you'll like this flavor.  We tried a few of the other flavors:  Milk Chocolate and Peanut Butter Cup. The Milk Chocolate was as good as any chocolate k-cup I've tried!

I was very pleasantly surprised by the Peanut Butter Cup flavor. I wasn't sure what I'd think of that, but it was really good! It had a nice nutty flavor with a blend of chocolate. It's definitely one of my favorites of all.

The one thing I noticed is that in order to get the best flavor from the cocoa, you need to use the smallest cup setting. My Keurig has 3 settings. On the medium, the flavor wasn't quite as good. The small seemed to give the best flavor and it was enough to satisfy me.

Dial recently sent me samples of Dial Baby Body and Hair wash and Dial Kids Foaming Hand Soap to try out.

As you can see, Kynzi couldn't wait to use it! Dial Kids Foaming Hand Wash is a gentle foaming hand wash so you don't have to worry about it being harsh on your little one's skin. Both Dial Baby Body + Hair Wash and Dial Kids Foaming Hand Wash were developed with pediatric dermatologists. They're hypoallergenic with no added parabens or artificial dyes. It's also pH balanced.

As you can see, it's also nice and foamy! Kynzi loved that part. She LOVED washing her hands with this soap. I personally never realized how exciting and fun washing your hands can be, but she loved the foaming action and well after her hands were dry, she came over to me and said "Smell my hands. They smell SOOOO good!"  She figured out on her own that it was watermelon scented, so it definitely smells just like the bottle says!

It also got her hands nice and clean. She'd been painting that morning at pre-school and all the paint remnants on her hands were washed away with the soap.

As for the Dial Baby Body + Hair Wash, don't laugh, but I tried it  out on myself. I didn't wash my hair in it, but I did use it as a body wash and it worked just as I expected, so you really could use it as a family body and hair wash for the little ones at least! It's definitely gentle and no scent is left behind except that fresh clean scent you'd expect from a baby wash.

There are few things I like more than climbing into a bed with freshly laundered sheets. They always smell fresh and clean. That's when I got to try out new Purex Crystals ScentSplash, the first thing I did was wash my sheets!

Purex Crystals ScentSplash is an in-wash fragrance booster that helps eliminate laundry oders and makes your laundry smell fresh and clean. Purex Chrystals ScentSplace works about the same as the Purex Crystals you might be familiar with. Just like the crystals, you just add however much you like to your wash and your clothes come out smelling terrific. Add as little or as lot of the ScentSplash to your wash as you like. The more you add, the stronger the scent will be, of course.  I added the recommended half cap to my sheets and the scent was perfect--not at all overwhelming, but strong enough to smell good.

Purex Crystals ScentSplash is available in three different scents: Fresh Spring Water, Fresh Lavender Blossom and Fresh Mountain Breeze. I got the Fresh Spring Waters to try out. My sheets along with the towels I just washed definitely have a just washed fresh scent to them. I really like it!

I know you're thinking Dial is best known for it's antibacterial soaps and not so much for soaps with scents you'd like to practically eat, but this Sugar Can Husk Scrub ranks as one of the yummiest smelling soaps I've smelled in a while.

I'm one of those people who can't handle strong floral scents. Give me a good vanilla or citrus though, and I will wash my hands in it all day. (Yes, I know that's not so good for me, but did I mention these are also moisturizing soaps?) This Sugar Cane Husk scrub scent is right up there for me. It smells sweet but not too sweet. Imagine fresh cut sugar can if you can. It's how I imagine that would smell!

I got to try out the Mountain Breeze and it made my towels smell fresh and clean. I love the fact that I'm using less detergent because that saves me money. Sometimes the little lines on the detergent bottles are confusing. You really don't always know how much to use. Purex PowerShot takes all the guessing out of the equation.

Plus if you have little ones and you want to get them started, you can let them help with the laundry without worrying that they'll dump half the bottle into the machine. (I wouldn't know anyone who has ever done that "on accident.")

I personally love the grilled Tilapia. It makes it so easy to put together a quick dinner. I usually pop them in the oven, but you can cook them in the microwave. Purex Fabulously Fresh Crystals Review & Giveaway

We all want to smell good. At least I hope we do. I've sometimes wondered that about my teenage son. ;)

Purex Fabulously Fresh Crystals can help your laundry smell just as good as you(hopefully) do. Purex sent me a bottle of their Fabulously Fresh Crystals to try out a few weeks ago. I admit I've pretty much been using the same fabric softener for years. I'm used to it and the scent isn't very strong, but it softens my clothes just fien and does the job.

The one thing I don't like is that if I use my softener on my towels, my towels are just not as absorbant. Yes, they're nice and fluffy, but if they don't soak up the water, how is that good? I've been using dryer sheets on my towels, but still haven't been thrilled with the results as far as the scent goes.

That's why I was happy to read that using Purex Fabulously Fresh Crystals would not affect the absorbancy of my towels. YAY! I decided to try it out and used the full amount recommended on a huge load of towels. You put the crystals in with your laundry right along with the soap. I have an HE machine, so I just put the crystals right on top of my towels and closed the lid. It worked perfectly!

I noticed the scent was there when the towels were folded and put away and I still smell it a few days after. It's not overpowering like some fabric softeners or scent boosters can be either. It's just a nice fragrance and it makes me think of walking through a field of fresh spring flowers. That's perfect for this time of year!

Gorton's Artisan Fillets Review & Giveaway

 

My husband is a big fan of fish. He loves it cooked almost any way but I don't really enjoy making fish. I do, however, have no issues making Gorton's frozen fish. Gorton's makes it SO easy. From the freezer to the oven or the pan, the fish is done in no time with literally almost no mess!

This time, Gorton's sent me some coupons so we could try their new Artisan fillets. We selected Roasted Garlic & Italian Herb fish fillets. Garlic? Italian herbs? What could be better! These were wonderful. The Italian breadcrumbs created a crispy crust and the garlic and Italian herbs added a nice flaver.  I put the fish in the oven with some steak fries and in about 25 minutes or so, we had fish and chips. (We also had a salad, but no picture of that. Oops.)

See how crispy they turned out? Nothing mushy there!

There are also other varieties to try, like Lemon & Cracked Peppercorn, Southwest Tortilla and Southern Style. They all sound yummy. I was only able to find the Garlic and Italian Herb at my store, however. I'm sure all of these would be family pleasers and since they're on the table fast, it's also convenient.
