Dehydration can lead to fatigue and poor sports performances. Are you looking for a way to keep yourself hydrated? The heat is still brutal here and if you're outside working or working out, you know how quickly you can get dehydrated which can lead to fatigue and more nasty symptoms. I'd heard about some of these electrolyte mixes to add to water and was happy to try these out from SOS Hydration. I did receive these free to review for you, but the opinions are my own.
My first impression was the easy of use. They are SO easy to use. They come in easy to use and store packets that are pre-measured for you. You don't have to mess with scoops. Just open the packet and dump it in. In addition, the packs are easy to open which was a relieve. I was glad I didn't need scissors or worse--my teeth--to open the packets. Just add a packet to your water and shake well. Then you're good to go! Use your own reusable water bottle of course if you want. I used a clear bottle to show you how it looked.
One pack is enough to flavor 16 ounces of water which is a standard size bottle of water. You can use up to two sticks before exercise to keep you hydrated for up to a 60 minute workout. Two adds more flavor, so if you like a stronger flavored water, that might be fore you.
Taking a trip? These packs are TSA approved, so if you're traveling, these can go in your suitcase or carry-on with no issues. They're also the perfect thing to stash in your purse or your car to keep you hydrated on short notice.
This is one packet of the citrus flavor in a 16 oz bottle of water. I also tried two packs and I liked it both ways. I would probably stick to one unless I felt I absolutely needed it. That's me though. I'm not doing high impact exercise or training. I mixed this up in my car before heading out for a walk at a local park. It was a socially distanced walk, of course. Like I said above, the packets are perfect for stashing in your car or purse for times just like this. They're also reasonably priced. Over at the SOS Hydration site, you can pick up a 10 pack of SOS Active Electrolyte Drink Mix Sticks for just $9.99 or a 20 pack for $17.99.
SOS Hydration says these work as good as an IV drip. I'm not a doctor and I'm not going to make medical claims. What I will say is that I felt hydrated. I wasn't dying of thirst after using them as I typically am after a walk in the heat. They tasted good and were easy to drink for that reason. I think keeping hydrated helps with stamina, so I do think drinking this helps keep me going.
The SOS Hydration site says that these SOS Active Electrolyte Powder Sachets contain 3x more electrolytes, 6x less sugar, and 6x less calories than competing brands for more effective fluid absorption and no GI distress. I will verify that I had no GI distress. If you're watching your sugar intake, that's a plus. These are Keto certified by the Paleo foundation if that's a concern as well.
I used these packets several times before heading out in the heat for a walk or even to sit socially distanced at my niece's softball games in the beating sun. I do believe these helped with hydration and the one thing I'm appreciative of is that they kept me from reaching for other types of beverages that might be loaded with sugar that would just cause a crash later. If you're one of those people who gets involved at work and forgets to drink(raising hand,) this is also a great way to get your electrolytes in so you're not combating work fatigue. I'm going to keep this on hand at my house. It will help when we've been sick to help build our electrolytes back up as well.
Overall, I think these worked well and am glad I tried them. I've shared a few with friends and can't wait to hear their impressions as well.
