It can be hard to find an active game that everyone can play, regardless of mobility issues. Cornhole comes close to being that game.
All you need are two regulation cornhole boards and two sets four cornhole bags, each set a different color. You can even order customized sets that accommodate physical challenges. For example, you could have boards with larger than regulation holes to make the game easier for young children, grandparents, or players with physical challenges. In addition, regulation cornhole rules allow for a junior fault line for younger players, but seniors and the physically challenged could also be allowed to throw from that shorter distance.
A five-hole variation on the classic single-hole regulation board also gives those who can't toss the bags very far a chance to score more points. The five-hole boards have two five-point holes to the left and right at the top of the board. A two-point hole is centered at the bottom of the board with three- and four-point holes above it. Bags that land on the board without touching the ground still score one point.
You can extend cornhole play from day into night, and possibly help visually challenged players, by installing LED lights around the holes on your cornhole board. The rings of lights come in red, blue, amber, green, and white, and they fit around the outside of regulation-size holes. The lights come in packages of two, so, if you want to light each team's board with a different color, you will need two packages for classic single-hole boards and six packages for five-hole boards. However, since the boards are placed at opposite ends of the playing field, there shouldn't be any confusion over which board belongs to which team. One package for single-hole boards and five packages for five-hole boards should be fine.
Small practice boards provide another option for seniors, or for those with greater physical challenges, to have fun while getting a little more exercise. Single-hole practice boards come in 1' x 1', 1.5' x 3', 2' x 3', and 1' x 4' sizes. The latter size is called the "skinny board." The exercise boards come in sets of two, and they are easy to transport.
Cornhole can be a source of family fun and exercise year round, whatever the weather. Just set up your boards and play, indoors or outdoors.
