I live in one of the few states(WV) where Walmart has been doubling coupons for the past few months. Unfortunately, the doubling ends tomorrow, so I searched through my coupons to see what I could find to use. I may make another trip, but on this trip, I managed to get the items above for only $4.88.
It's hard for me to figure out exactly what I saved with coupons because the doubling doesn't happen automatically and I didn't write down the shelf price of the items. The cashier takes the "double" part of the coupon off of the price of the item. So if you're buying something that is $1.75 and you have a .50 coupon, the cashier rings the item up at $1.25 and then you see the coupon come off your final total as another .50.
Hopefully when(I'm not going to say IF) they bring Double Coupons back, Walmart will make it easier on their cashiers! If the pilot program went well, I hope they'll extend it to everyone.
After my Walmart trip, I hit Kroger. I've been waiting on their Buy 10 sales on Del Monte canned vegetables and Swanson broth. They were .49 each when you buy 10. I always stock up when they run this sale! I also got some frozen Green Giant boxed veggies for $.80 each after coupon. Unfortunately, I couldn't get all the canned vegetables I wanted, so I'll be heading back. After sales and coupons, I managed to save $42.32 and spent only $21.29.
That's a savings of 67%.
No, it's not EXTREME couponing, but I think it's pretty darn good couponing!
